This is one of a pair of pictures inspired by a trip to Charleston in East Sussex, the country home of the Bloomsbury Set.

Struck by the beauty of this apple tree, Mike took a series of photographs to work from in his studio.

When Mike was a young father he belonged to a rowing club on the Thames at Hammersmith. This was a favourite spot for him to take his children to watch the annual University Boat Race.

This is a view from the house in Culmington Road where Mike and his wife Sandy lived for more than forty-five years and where they raised their three daughters.

To get to Steep Hill Cove you either have to arrive by boat or walk along the cliffs from Ventnor. This is what makes Steep Hill Cove such a special place.

Mike and his wife Sandy would often pootle up and down the River Thames on their boat with their two dogs Freddy and Daisy.
